CAN President regain freedom
The Bishop of Benin Diocese of Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Peter Imasuen, who was kidnapped last Sunday in Benin City, has been freed by his abductors.
Rt. Rev. Imasuen who is the Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Edo State Chapter, was said to have been freed by his abductors.
Though details were sketchy as at the time of this report, it was however gathered that the Bishop was unhurt, and in a stable condition.
It could not be ascertained whether any ransom was paid before Bishop Imasuen was released by those who kidnapped him.
Sources close to the church however said no ransom was paid before the state Chairman of CAN was released.
It will be recalled that Rt. Rev. Peter Imasuen was abducted by unknown gunmen at noon last Sunday, January 24, 2010, in front of his official residence (Bishop Court at Iyaro, Benin City), when he was being driven into his compound after the Sunday service.
He was said to have been trailed by his abductors after service at St. Matthew’s Cathedral, along Sakponba Road, Benin City.
Four gunmen were said to have accosted him, and took him to an unknown destination.
