
Dr. Osagie Osariemen Obayuwana, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice
Obayuwana is the Chairman, Human Rights Committee, Nigeria Bar Association and National Chairman, National Conscience Party (NCP). He was also Vice President, Committee for Defence of Human Rights (CDHR). His penchance for the defence of the down trodden may have earned him the job.
Born on 19th April, 1955, Obayuwana attended St. Angela’s primary school, Benin City, St. Stephen’s primary school, Immaculate Conception College, Benin City, Alabama A&M University, Huntsville Alabama, USA where he bagged B.Sc Accounting, Summa Cum Laude and University of California, Los Angeles School of Law with a Doctor in Jurisprudence before he attended Nigerian Law school, in Lagos where he obtained his BL in 1988.
Obayuwana who hails from Ovia North East local government area of the state is blessed with experience. He was an attendant of National Health Enterprises, Huntsville, Alabama, USA; Staff Adviser, Office of International Students and Scholars, University of California, Los Angeles, USA; Staff Counsel, Law Firm of Davis & Parks, Los Angeles, Chief Gani Fawehinmi Chambers, Lagos and C. N. Nsobundu & Co, Legal Practitioners, Lagos. He equally doubles as the Principal Counsel and Head of Chambers/Principal Counsel, Osagie Obayuwana & Co, Benin City.
His proficiency and accomplishment in his chosen profession is expected to be put to bear as to the re-structuring, re-organization and re-focusing of the judiciary during his service year to the people of Edo state.
Ministry of Justice is charged with the responsibilities for:
Legal Advice to Government;
Drafting of Edicts;
Revision of the Statute Law of the State;
Criminal Law Policy and Civil Law Policy;
Civil Proceedings by or against the Government;
Criminal Proceedings;
